Announcement Regarding Battery Packaging

If you have purchased hearing aid batteries recently, you may have noticed that opening the package is much more difficult than usual. Battery packaging has changed primarily due to increasing safety concerns, particularly regarding child safety, alongside evolving regulations around the transportation and handling of lithium batteries, leading to a focus on more robust and child-resistant designs with clear warning labels to prevent accidental ingestion.

To open these batteries, you will need sharp scissors or wire cutters. Take the paper backing off the package and then cut along the bubbles, located between the batteries. This will release the plastic encasing the battery and allow the battery to fall out. It may be a good idea to cut all batteries out of a package and then store them in some type of container where they can remain separated. If the batteries rub together, they will lose some of their charge.

Storage ideas are limited at this time, but we are hopeful some solutions will be coming soon. Using a pill box has been suggested; however, we must caution the need to be careful and label it well to ensure no one misunderstands what its contents are for! We offer battery holders that you can put in your pocket, and if you do not have one, I highly recommend them. They are even more useful now that it isn’t easy to pop a battery out of its package while on the go. If you need further guidance, feel free to reach out to our office. We can send you an informational video with further guidance.
