By itemizing our services and products, our audiologists offer transparency in pricing unlike anything that has been offered locally. At Adaptive Audiology Solutions, we are proud to offer the most comprehensive care options available to Denison, Carroll, IA, and the surrounding areas. We offer all manufacturers of hearing aids, and our Doctor of Audiology is trained in cochlear implants and bone anchored hearing aid solutions. It is our mission at Adaptive Audiology Solutions to continually add technology and services so that we can offer the highest level of care available.
A licensed and experienced Doctor of Audiology will perform a variety of tests to determine the unique aspects of your hearing loss, as well as the level at which you can detect and understand speech. These evaluations may be covered by insurance, and we encourage you to contact our office to learn more.
During a hearing aid evaluation, your hearing care professional will discuss different hearing aid manufacturers, styles, technologies, colors and benefits. Your audiologist will help you select the right hearing aid for your personal needs. Custom impressions may be taken of your ears, depending on the style of hearing device chosen.
At the hearing aid fitting, you will receive the hearing aids you selected. The audiologist will use a computer to program the hearing aids to fit your hearing loss prescription, as well as use real ear measurement to confirm that the hearing aids are fit to your hearing loss needs. After this is complete, your audiologist and the audiology assistant will teach you how to use your new hearing aids!
Without real ear measurement, there is no way to guarantee that a person’s hearing aids are fit correctly. This procedure is clinically proven to result in improved hearing aid performance, increased patient satisfaction and reduces the number of office visits required for successful hearing aid programming.
With this method, small microphones placed in the ear canal are used to measure the response of the hearing aid in your ear. A unique feature of real ear measurement is the ability to have a family member or close friend talk to you while the microphone measures your ability to hear live voices.
At Adaptive Audiology Solutions, we are proud to have state-of-the-art equipment that enables our audiologist to “see” what you are hearing through your hearing aids on a screen in real-time. The results are displayed on a wall-mounted screen so that you can also see the adjustments and participate in the process.
Often hearing aids are not functional because they need a professional cleaning. All staff members at Adaptive Audiology Solutions are trained to provide this service. Some minor hearing aid repairs can be done in the office in a short period of time; others will need to be sent to the manufacturer for repair. Your hearing professional can help determine what kind of a repair is necessary if you feel your hearing aid is not working properly. We also offer the Redux™ drying system, which is the best hearing aid dryer system in the industry and effectively removes harmful moisture in hearing aids. Moisture continues to be the most common cause of hearing aid malfunction.
Hearing Rehab is known within the audiology profession as “aural rehabilitation”. It encompasses any activity that helps rehabilitate hearing. Studies show that this is an under-utilized resource in the treatment of hearing loss. Dr. Sondra Rierson offers a Hearing Rehab class as a Facebook live event the first Thursday of every month at 9 am. Adaptive Audiology also offers online auditory therapy. Just as physical therapy is useful after surgery, Hearing Rehab is very useful in maximizing your performance and experience with your new hearing aids.
Tinnitus is often described as a ringing in the ear and can range in severity. A tinnitus evaluation by a hearing healthcare provider can help to identify the cause of your tinnitus, the impact on your life and discuss treatment options that can benefit you.
Adaptive Audiology Solutions is proud to be the only audiology clinic in the Carroll and Denison area to offer cochlear implant solutions. Cochlear implants are a surgically implanted medical device that treats hearing loss. The implant allows those with severe to profound hearing impairment the ability to hear and understand speech when hearing aids are no longer enough. Part of the device is implanted under the skin behind the ear, and the electrode that is inserted into the cochlea stimulates the auditory nerve directly, bypassing the damaged hair cells. This restores hearing, allowing for better audibility and understanding of speech sounds.
As a part of the Cochlear Provider Network, our services include diagnostic testing to determine candidacy, programming the implant and all follow-up related care. Dr. Rierson will guide each patient through the candidacy and implant journey in partnership with area surgeons trained in cochlear implant surgery.
A bone conduction implant, or BAHA ® system, is a surgically implanted medical device used to treat certain types of hearing loss. The BAHA system conducts sound through vibration of the bone (bone conduction), using a titanium implant to transmit the sound to the inner ear (cochlea), bypassing the external auditory canal, eardrum, and middle ear. This implant is only recommended when amplification by air conduction (traditional hearing aids) is contraindicated.
To determine whether a patient is a BAHA candidate, a diagnostic hearing evaluation must be completed. As part of the Cochlear Provider Network, Dr. Rierson is trained to evaluate and program BAHA devices and can even provide a demonstration for candidates considering implantation. Adaptive Audiology Solutions works in partnership with area surgeons trained to implant the BAHA device.
Good hearing health starts with protecting your hearing from damaging noise. Sudden or prolonged exposure to noise is one of the leading causes of hearing loss. Hearing loss from prolonged noise exposure is often detected too late, meaning the hearing loss is usually irreversible.
