Diagnostic Audiologic Evaluations

It’s important to note that insurance often covers these evaluations, we we encourage you to contact our office to learn more.

Preventing hearing loss at a young age is paramount for ensuring comprehensive development and well-being. During the formative years, children acquire language and social skills through listening and communication. Thus, untreated hearing loss can impede these critical developmental milestones, leading to delays in speech and language acquisition. Learn more about our tips for preventing hearing loss.

Hearing Aid Evaluation And Selection

During a hearing aid evaluation, your hearing care professional will discuss different hearing aid manufacturers, styles, technologies, colors and benefits. Your audiologist will help you select the right hearing aid for your personal needs. Depending on the style of hearing device you choose, we will take custom impressions of your ears. Rechargeable and Bluetooth-enabled hearing aids are available!

Hearing Aid Dispensing And Fitting

At the hearing aid fitting, you will receive the hearing aids you selected. The audiologist will use a computer to program the hearing aids to fit your hearing loss prescription, as well as use real ear measurement to confirm that the hearing aids are fit to your hearing loss needs. After this is complete, your audiologist and the audiology assistant will teach you how to use your new hearing aids! When you need an audiologist in Carroll, IA or Denison, IA who truly cares for your hearing, you need Adaptive Audiology Solutions. Contact us today!

Real Ear Measurement

Without real ear measurement, there is no way to guarantee that a person’s hearing aids are fit correctly. This procedure is clinically proven to result in improved hearing aid performance, increased patient satisfaction and reduces the number of office visits required for successful hearing aid programming.

This method uses small microphones placed in the ear canal to measure the hearing aid’s response in your ear.  A unique feature of real ear measurement is the ability to have a family member or close friend talk to you while the microphone measures your ability to hear live voices.

At Adaptive Audiology Solutions, we are proud to have state-of-the-art equipment that enables our audiologist to “see” what you are hearing through your hearing aids on a screen in real-time. We display the results on a wall-mounted screen so you can see the adjustments and participate in the process.

Hearing Aid Cleanings and Repairs

Often hearing aids are not functional because they need a professional cleaning. At Adaptive Audiology Solutions, we train all staff members to provide this service so we can complete some minor hearing aid repairs in the office quickly. We will send other repairs to the manufacturer. Your hearing professional can help determine what kind of a repair is necessary if you feel your hearing aid is not working properly. We also offer the Redux drying system. Redux is the best hearing aid dryer system in the industry and effectively removes harmful moisture in hearing aids. Moisture continues to be the most common cause of hearing aid malfunction.

Hearing Rehab

Within the audiology services profession, we refer to Hearing Rehab as “aural rehabilitation. ”It encompasses any activity that helps rehabilitate hearing. Studies show that this is an under-utilized resource in the treatment of hearing loss. Dr. Sondra Rierson, our in-house audiologist, offers a Hearing Rehab class as a Facebook live event the first Thursday of every month at 9 am. Adaptive Audiology also offers online auditory therapy. Just as physical therapy is useful after surgery, Hearing Rehab is very useful in maximizing your performance and experience with your new hearing aids.

Cochlear Implants

Image of How the Cochlear Nucleus Implant system works

Adaptive Audiology Solutions is proud to be the only audiologist clinic in the Carroll and Denison, IA area to offer cochlear implant solutions. Cochlear implants are a surgically implanted medical device that treats hearing loss. The implant allows those with severe to profound hearing impairment the ability to hear and understand speech when hearing aids are no longer enough. Part of the device is implanted under the skin behind the ear, and the electrode that is inserted into the cochlea stimulates the auditory nerve directly, bypassing the damaged hair cells. This restores hearing, allowing for better audibility and understanding of speech sounds.

As a part of the Cochlear Provider Network, our audiology services include diagnostic testing to determine candidacy, programming the implant, and all follow-up related care. Dr. Rierson will guide each patient through the candidacy and implant journey in partnership with area surgeons trained in cochlear implant surgery.

Osseointegrated solutions (bone anchored hearing aids)

A bone conduction implant, or BAHA ® system, is a surgically implanted medical device used to treat certain types of hearing loss. The BAHA system conducts sound through vibration of the bone (bone conduction), using a titanium implant to transmit the sound to the inner ear (cochlea), bypassing the external auditory canal, eardrum, and middle ear. This implant is only recommended when amplification by air conduction (traditional hearing aids) is contraindicated.

To determine whether a patient is a BAHA candidate, a diagnostic hearing evaluation must be completed. As part of the Cochlear Provider Network, Dr. Rierson is trained to evaluate and program BAHA devices and can even provide a demonstration for candidates considering implantation. Adaptive Audiology Solutions works in partnership with area surgeons trained to implant the BAHA device.

Custom Ear Mold & Earplugs

Good hearing health starts with protecting your hearing from damaging noise.  Sudden or prolonged exposure to noise is one of the leading causes of hearing loss. Hearing loss from prolonged noise exposure is often detected too late, meaning the hearing loss is usually irreversible.

Though over-the-counter earplugs offer some protection, custom earmolds and earplugs offer maximum protection as well as a comfortable fit that is designed specifically for your ears. Learn more about everything you need to know about hearing protection. The most comfortable, custom solutions are found at Adaptive Audiology Solutions. Contact us to learn more!
