If your hearing aid is not working properly, the problem might be one you can solve on your own. Here are three tips to try before making a trip into the office:
1. Check the Battery
First, make sure you have a fresh battery in your device. If your device is rechargeable, make sure it is charged, paying close attention to the indicator light to make sure it is properly connected.
2. Clean wax or debris
The second most common reason that devices sound weak or dead is that they are clogged with wax or debris. If your hearing aid has a wax guard/filter, try replacing it with a fresh one. Use a dry toothbrush to remove any debris from the speaker and microphone.
3. Attach receiver wire
Lastly, for behind-the ear-styles, make sure your receiver wire is attached to the device. It is possible it has come loose.
If your hearing aid is still not performing properly, it may be time to schedule an appointment with a provider or drop the device off with our patient care coordinator.
