Adaptive Audiology Solutions is proud to be the only audiologist clinic in the Carroll and Denison, IA area to offer cochlear implant solutions. Cochlear implants are a surgically implanted medical device that treats hearing loss. The implant allows those with severe to profound hearing impairment the ability to hear and understand speech when hearing aids are no longer enough. Part of the device is implanted under the skin behind the ear, and the electrode that is inserted into the cochlea stimulates the auditory nerve directly, bypassing the damaged hair cells. This restores hearing, allowing for better audibility and understanding of speech sounds.
As a part of the Cochlear Provider Network, our audiology services include diagnostic testing to determine candidacy, programming the implant, and all follow-up related care. Dr. Rierson will guide each patient through the candidacy and implant journey in partnership with area surgeons trained in cochlear implant surgery.
A bone conduction implant, or BAHA ® system, is a surgically implanted medical device used to treat certain types of hearing loss. The BAHA system conducts sound through vibration of the bone (bone conduction), using a titanium implant to transmit the sound to the inner ear (cochlea), bypassing the external auditory canal, eardrum, and middle ear. This implant is only recommended when amplification by air conduction (traditional hearing aids) is contraindicated.
To determine whether a patient is a BAHA candidate, a diagnostic hearing evaluation must be completed. As part of the Cochlear Provider Network, Dr. Rierson is trained to evaluate and program BAHA devices and can even provide a demonstration for candidates considering implantation. Adaptive Audiology Solutions works in partnership with area surgeons trained to implant the BAHA device.
Good hearing health starts with protecting your hearing from damaging noise. Sudden or prolonged exposure to noise is one of the leading causes of hearing loss. Hearing loss from prolonged noise exposure is often detected too late, meaning the hearing loss is usually irreversible.
